Google has started rolling out its August 2025 spam update, the first one in eight months. The rollout began at August 26, 12:05 p.m. and is expected to take a few weeks to complete.

This is Google's first spam update of 2025 and the first major update since the June 2025 core update. According to Google, this is a "normal spam update" and will apply to all languages and regions. Updates on its progress will be shared on the Google Search Status Dashboard.

The announcement – Google announced:

  • "Today we released the August 2025 spam update. It may take a few weeks to complete. This is a normal spam update, and it will roll out for all languages and locations. We'll post on the Google Search Status Dashboard when the rollout is done."

Previous updates

The last spam update was released in December 2024, running from Dec. 19 to Dec. 26. Before that, Google pushed out a spam update in June 2024, which rolled out between June 20 and June 27.
